How to Grow on Instagram Using Your Own Data

Export your account data, let AI find what performs, and sequence content so your best material reaches more people.

01 · The idea

Algorithm first. Then the deep thing.

Even strong content underperforms if the platform doesn't distribute it. Lead with content the algorithm favors to reach a wider audience, then deliver your most valuable material once they're paying attention.

Depth only

Great, practical content the platform doesn't push. Few people see it, so it doesn't matter how good it is.

Algorithm, then depth

Something the platform loves pulls people in. Then the practical post lands with a bigger audience that's already watching.

What I've seen on Instagram

  1. Lifestyle

A great lifestyle post. The kind the feed likes to push.

  2. Practical

Then something practical and useful. Now more people see it.

In my experience on Instagram, lifestyle-then-practical does better than only posting practical content. On other platforms I've seen the opposite. That's exactly why you can't copy one rule everywhere.

It's a combination. Understanding your analytics and the algorithm is the key.

This is my experience, not a law. Your audience may behave differently, which is why the rest of this guide is about checking your own data.

02 · The smartest move

Export your data. Let AI read it.

Every major platform lets you export your information, going back to the day you opened the account. Download it, hand it to AI, and let AI find the patterns.

  1. Export

Request your data from each platform.

  2. Add numbers

Pull your performance stats from the platform's insights.

  3. AI reads it

Use the prompt in this guide.

  4. Act

Post more of what works. Re-check monthly.

Choose JSON when you can

Most exports offer HTML (easy to browse) or JSON (easy for AI to read). Pick JSON and the date range All time. Low media quality keeps the file small if you only need the text and data.

03 · Step by step

How to export, platform by platform

Menu names checked against each platform's help pages in October 2026. Meta is moving people from "Accounts Center" to "Meta Account," so you may see either name.

Instagram Meta Account

  1. More (☰) → Settings → Meta Account (or Accounts Center).
  2. Your information and permissions → Export your information → Create export.
  3. Pick your profile → Export to device. Choose the info, All time, JSON → Start export.
  4. Download from Available downloads within 4 days. It can take a while.

Numbers: Professional Dashboard or Meta Business Suite insights.

Facebook Same Meta tool

  1. Profile picture → Settings & privacy → Settings → Meta Account.
  2. Your information and permissions → Export your information → Create export.
  3. Pick the profile → Export to device → info, date range, JSON → Start export.
  4. Download within 4 days of the notification.

TikTok In the app

  1. Profile → Menu (☰) → Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data.
  2. Under Request data, choose All data or Custom, format JSON, then Request data.
  3. Check the Download data tab and download within 4 days.

Numbers: TikTok Studio analytics.

YouTube Studio + Takeout

Performance: YouTube Studio → Analytics → Advanced mode → lifetime → Export current view → CSV (500 rows max).

Content backup: takeout.google.com → YouTube and YouTube Music → Create export.

04 · The hidden-caption method

Give your stories words AI can read

Instagram stories have a problem: no caption means nothing for AI to read. AI sees "Story, 9:42 PM, 1,200 views" and has no idea what it was.

The fix, starting today

  1. Post your story like normal.
  2. Add a text box describing it, written for AI: for AI: behind the scenes at a client workshop, team photo
  3. Drag that text off to the edge of the frame so viewers barely see it.
  4. Do it on every story, same format: for AI: [what] [where] [vibe or topic].

Without it

"Story · 1,200 views · 40 replies." AI can't tell you why it worked.

With it

"for AI: behind the scenes, workshop, team · 1,200 views · 40 replies." Now AI can connect the topic to the result.

Do this for a month, then export. AI can link it all up: which kinds of stories get views, replies and follows, and which don't.

⌘ · The prompt

Have AI read your patterns

Upload your export files plus your insights CSV or screenshots, then paste this.

Analyze my social dataAfter you download your export and insights.
I'm attaching my [Instagram / TikTok / YouTube / Facebook] data export and my performance numbers. I run [business / what I post about]. My goal is [more reach / followers / DMs / bookings].

1. Build a table of every post and story: date, time, type, topic (use captions and any "for AI:" notes), and performance (views, reach, saves, shares, replies, follows).
2. Label each one: lifestyle, practical, behind-the-scenes, promo, or other.
3. Tell me which types, topics, days and times perform best and worst. Show the numbers.
4. Check the sequence: when a lifestyle post is followed by a practical post, does the practical post beat practical posts on their own?
5. Tell me what to post more of, less of, and the best posting order for the next 30 days.
6. Only use what's in the data. If something is missing or unclear, say so instead of guessing.
Monthly re-checkOnce a month.
Here is this month's export and last month's summary. What changed? Which patterns held and which broke? Update my 30-day plan.

Your 30-day plan

Catch the wide net first. Then go deep. And let the data, not your gut, tell you which is which.

Platform menus change often. Steps checked October 2026. Results are my experience, not a guarantee.
